Project information

Located in Van, in the eastern region of Turkey, this project was commissioned by a client seeking a single-bedroom villa with an open-plan kitchen and high ceilings. The result is a thoughtfully designed 150 m² stone villa, tailored to the site and the unique character of the region.

Local Material, Singular Expression

The building is constructed using a single primary material: Van Stone—a local, volcanic black rock unique to the region. The rich texture and deep tone of this stone provide the structure with a solid, sculptural identity, while natural wood accents complement it with warmth and contrast.

Together, these two materials define both the aesthetic and structural language of the villa, offering a minimal yet expressive palette.

Light, Space & Transparency

The villa features tall vertical windows on its front and side façades, allowing daylight to flood the interiors while framing views of the surrounding garden. The sense of spaciousness is amplified by generous ceiling heights, creating a calm and airy interior atmosphere despite the building's modest footprint.

At the front, a wide, shaded terrace provides a perfect space for gathering, relaxing, and dining while overlooking the garden.

Functional Division & Form

The architecture reads as two distinct volumes from the exterior.

- The main block houses the living room, kitchen, and the bedroom tucked behind.

- A smaller secondary block, connected via a subtle transition, contains the entrance hall and bathroom, providing functional separation without disrupting visual unity.

This composition offers both clarity of organization and a harmonious relationship with the landscape.
